You can use your ... ( 2 weeks ago by ThomasGrillo)
You can use your theremin with your guitar, or keyboard amp. Moving a guitar into the field would have the same effect as moving your hand, but you would not get as much accuaracy as with your hands. It won't affect the guitar's performance.

Ahhh! Fascinating stuff. I wonder if there's a Theremin that operates this way but can utilise different samples rather than just one (?) sine/square wave sound. To be able to do this with some multi-samples of choirs or strings would be amazing.

Big Briar, now Moog Music made such a theremin called the Ethervox. Only 50 were made. This theremin had internal midi built in.
The Moog Etherwave Pro (discontinued), and the PAiA Theremax have Continuous Voltage outputs which provide a means of controling synthesizers. Many theremins (not all) have Waveform, and brightness controls. Wavefront makes a theremin to midi interface box to control midi devices with a theremin
. It should be possible to build a theremin with sample chips.

how would i actually connect it to my amp with the guitar? does the cord go from the amp to the theramin and have another cord go from the theramin to the guitar kinda like a pedal or effects processor?

I want a theremin! @_@
It sounds like the blue alien lady singing 'Lamermoor'(?) in 'The Fifth Element.' And if you're a musician or a voice teacher, it's like having a soprano that never tires of practising.
The theremin would ... ( 1 week ago by ThomasGrillo)
The theremin would be on it's on line into the amp. The guitar woould be on it's on line to another input on the amp, or another amp. Niether would affect, or control the other.
To get effects for the theremin, you would run the theremin into an effects pedal, and then into the amp. However, some theremins with CV outs can be plugged into a synth with CV inputs, and then into an amp.

Just imagin what people thought when they first saw theremins in the 1920s. Many women fainted because they thought they were hearing angels in the theaters where live theremin performances were being given. Back then, electricification was so new, and people didn't know much about it, let alone electronic music.

hi!
tomorrow i am going to buy a beginner theremin from jaycar economics...
iv heard that because the box thing is smallish it cant be played... does anyone know if this is true?
thanks!
The Jaycars tend to ... ( 5 days ago by ThomasGrillo)
The Jaycars tend to be very difficult to play because it's so small, and they can be very difficult to tune properly. Have a look at the thereminworld forums under jaycar to learn more about the issues with Jaycar theremins. I'd personally reommend investing a bit more in at least an original B3, or B3 Deluxe. They're much more playable.

Great instruction- thanks so much! I just got a little theremin from Theremaniacs, about $170. Never had one before, so I can't compare with others- seemed a good price to start. Doesn't have a volume antenna, but the pitch antenna seems pretty controllable. Enjoying it very much. Harder to play than I assumed it would be. That's what's making it fun! Thanks again for sharing your great knowledge! G. in Chicago

Theremins can cost anywhere from a couple hundred dollars, up to several thousand dollars depending on model, quality, and vintage (collectability).
A B3 is $152 B3 Deluxe is 200 B3 Pro is 300 Moog Etherwave Standard is 350 to 400. Moog Etherwave Pro (discontinued) 1500 new, sevreal thousand on e-bay. RCA (Discontinued) many thousands as only 150 to 200 are still in existance. 500 were made. Some theremins only have one antenna but cost any

Now that I've looked around a bit (I just got a Theremaniacs, as a gift) I'm sort of wishing I'd gotten the B3. Less in cost, and the B3 has the volume antenna as well. The Theremaniacs has a nice sound, though. Hey, I just looked up Clara Rockwell on Youtube. Incredible! I've found I can plug in an inexpensive pair of noise cancelling headphones (ones that use a AA battery, with volume control)and practice without disturbing the wife, or cat. Thanks again for the lessons!

Clara Rockmore was a brilliant thereminist indeed.
In the absense of a volume antenna, you can use a dynamics expression pedal, or the volume knob on your amp to control some dynamics.
