istoire semble n'avoir retenu de l'oeuvre de Johann Pachelbel, organiste et brillant précurseur de Jean-Sébastien Bach, que son célébrissime Canon. Il a pourtant écrit de nombreuses autres pages d'une musique éclatante, simple et efficace. Le chef d'orchestre Jean Tubéry nous en fait découvr

How refreshing. These period instrument performers know this Canon in D is a spirited Baroque *virtuoso* piece for 3 violins in canon over an ostinato basso continuo, not a dreamy-eyed lullaby for late Romantic string orchestra. I wonder why they framed the canon with words from the first line of Martin Luther's Christmas hymn, "Vom Himmel hoch, da komm ich her." Was this a Christmas concert?

This piece was written for 3 violins and continuo, but here a viola part has been added. I see 9 continuo players: 2 basses, chamber organ, lute and bassoon. Period players usually tune to A415, but here they are tuned to A440. To match the tuning of the chamber organ? My viol consort normally tunes to A415, but when we play with chamber organ or recorders, we tune to A440. The lutenist plays left-handed. Unusual. All the lefty string players I know (including me) play right-handed.
