Lou has emphasized the lyric within the basic structure of the original song. Ruined it? While I love the original, I think what he has done is re-imagine the tune in his own inimitable style.

I would say objectively that this is one of the greatest performances/recordings of any musical genre in history... Weill should be honored that Reed approached his inspiration with so much artistry

Very much agree but he has so many good songs. he's a big influence on my own songs too.
I love the "Berlin" album. But on the same token, i love love the "White Light White Heat" album with the Velvet Underground.

as i watched, i became irritated with the liberties reed had taken with one of my favorite songs. but the dread he works up in the chorus won me over. a classic reinterpretation i think.

It would be just an okay cover, but at 2:45 the intensity of the band and the music and everything clicks perfectly, it made the song quite good for me.
