Video Description:
digital video montage dealing with guillotine execution in the early part of the 20th century; most notably that of eugene weidmann in 1939. the enthusiasm of the crowd, as well as the fact that the event was filmed from an apartment window, became major factors in the french governments decision to ban public executions. as a result, the weidmann execution was the last public guillotining in france before the death penalty was finally abolished in 1981. musical setting is the viola solo "elegie" by igor stravinsky.

For all those of you that are for death penalty I suggest you read Camus' reflexion sur la guillotine, It lists all the reasons why death penalty is just useless and shameful (and no Camus wasn't an Obama like liberal if thats an insult to you)

The brain of those beheaded keeps working for up to a minute after the execution, which means the executed person can feel, see and hear after their head has been separated from their torso.

I accept it might be rubbish, I've never been beheaded. However, BBC's Focus Magazine ran a story on executions some time ago and it quoted medical opinions saying that a beheaded person will not always lose consciousness instantly and their sensory organs may well be able to function for a while. Not impossible if you think about it. There is still blood feeding the brain cells which take up to 5 minutes to die even after blood circulation has been completely cut off.

Nonsense about the brain remaining conscious. Concussion/shock, and the almost instantaneous lack of blood pressure would preclude it. This fallacy based on the lack of brainstem inhibition following the chop, so that lips and eyes move in an exaggerated fashion. Like a chicken running around after its head is chopped off.
