| Actually, this PP&M arrangment is based on a very old British custom called Wassail, where people went door to door at Christmas to ask for money and food. Note the use of the Christmas carol at the end. This custom was actually a way for people to beg without losing dignity. |

| When I worked at the Kansas City Rennaisaince Festival I would sometimes lay out my hat for people to drop money in while I sang this on the side of the lanes. I remember hearing a minstrel's harp that sounded just like the guitars in this. These guys do it awesome but I know a pair that do it even better, but sadly just divorced quite bitterly... |

| I'm not sure which it is, some versions include a Christmas verse. But in my studies I found that the song is about the tradition of making a cake for your dead relatives to come and dine with you thus indicating a halloween theme. But as you say, it doesn't matter, it's amazing no matter what season it's about. |

| made the big mistake of trying to learn this piece on 12 string guitar. Someone busted both my 6 stringers. Impossible. Borrowed a Martin 6 string and had it down it 3 days. A classic will always be loved and never copied. And never covered I might add. |
