Janis' mother told her she wished Janis had never been born. Out of that heartbreak, Janis OD'd a mere month or so later. A great, great talent was lost. Janis epitomized the San Fransisco sound and her rendition of the Gershwin classic 'summertime is simply fabulous and incomparable. Natsayers, go f#ck yourselves.

Janis's version of Summertime was put to good use in the animated film "American Pop", which came out in 1981. Great film, though hard to find today. Great real-life animation by Ralph Bakshi.

Robert Plant, Bon Scott, Dan McCafferty. Male Janis'. All after her, none gave her credit. She is very underrated in the music business and in the general public. Only her diehard fans know she sang more than Mercedes Benz and Piece of My Heart. What a shame, they don't know what they've missed. Peace.

Your'e very much right. But I would also like to add that her backing band, Big Brother and the Holding Company, are even more unknown. I mean I love the music probably more for the guitars than her singing; this is just probably because I play guitar but she is a great singer none-the-less.

Keep in mind, they still tour. Although, almost all members of that band trashed her after she left them, saying, she ruined their band. In truth, she put them on the map & they were jealous. Sam Andrew and James Gurley won acclaim in Billboard Magazine as writing one of the top ten psychedelic guitar solo pieces of ALL TIME for Summertime. They were more known, because originally, it was just BBHC when she joined them. Only later was it Janis Joplin & BBHC. By then she was ready to leave. Peace
