F16 Crash Idaho 2003
Uploaded by: megaplopp
Video Description:
MOUNTAIN HOME AIR FORCE BASE, Idaho -- Capt. Christopher Stricklin ejects
from the USAF Thunderbirds number six aircraft less than a second before
it impacted the ground at an air show at Mountain Home Air Force Base,
Idaho, Sept. 14. Stricklin, who was not injured, ejected after both guiding
the jet away from the crowd of more than 60,000 people and ensuring he
couldn't save the aircraft. This was only the second crash since the
Air Force began using F-16 Falcons for its demonstration team in 1982.
The ACES II ejection seat performed flawlessly.

tsss, if you need an air display wich costs millions of dollars to recruit people there's something your with your company. You shouldn't go into the Air Force because some pilots can fly their million dollar planes ... that doesn't make sense. IT'S A WASTE OF TAX PAYERS MONEY!

It doesn't cost millions of dollars. All that it takes is the fuel. The jets are combat used, and have been considered too old to fight. It's not like they're buying new jets to do this.

lol, 'only fuel' get real man! these are jet fighters! they need a total dismanteling every 800 flight hours and very costly repairs every 12 hours ... read a book ...'only fuel' LOL ... idiot! These are not Toyota's!

okay, fuel, spare parts, maintanence, that's not the point. It doesn't cost millions of dollars, and the money that the air force does spend on the thunderbirds is well used if it gets new recruits.

Unfortunately almost isn't enough there. He made the easy mistake of setting his altimiter to MSL (mean sea level) instead of AGL (above ground level) which depending on the elevation, which can be up to a few hundred feet he had insuficient altitude to complete the loop. I should imagine hes flying a desk somewhere now, sad way to end a career in the USAF thats for sure.

He needed another 1000 feet to do it per regulations. 50 more feet or so and he would have been fine, although he would have been yelled at quite a bit.

Yea he screwed up! Officers are suppose to be smarter than enlisted! LOL! Yea right! The elevation at Mountain Home is 2995 feet ASL! Got stationed there just a couple months after that air show! Worked on parts that we had to test at the base elevation to make sure they worked properly.
