Fatal Diving Accident Caught on Tape

Video Description:
Video taped by Yuri Lipski who killed in a diving accident in the "Blue Hole", Dahab, Egypt at 28.4.2000.
The video shows rare footage taken by Yuri's head camera, analyzed by specialists.
Since 1968, more than 100 divers lost their lives at this mysterious place.

COOK1993 , I live local to where this took place and have studied the origanal footage many times.I can say for sure that no shark or other animals dragged this poor soul to his death.Only narcocis and oxygen toxicity,Also a possibility of equipment problems because of inproper use and training.

pderover: This is a good point, when he surfaced this is who he is searching for but when he was unable to find him he carried on the dive alone. Over the years many people have lost their lives in the Blue Hole and most could be put down to diving beyond their limits and training.

Mystyre:Over the years many people have lost their lives in the Blue Hole and most could be put down to diving beyond their limits and training level.We know he overweighted himself, he didn't have the correct equipment for the dive, he's way beyond the depth of which air could be safely breathed, air becomes toxic about 66 m, and can effect your judgement beyond 25m. Yuri died because he was not trained to dive to this depth.

as a fellow diver myself that video has certinly hit home with me. i feel so sorry for the man in question and his family. i have been diveing for 3 years now and have one firm rule. i NEVER go beyond 30 meters but obvisiouly this man went to far. 81 meters is maddness but he was to narked at that stage to know where he was. why he didnt dump his gear when he first got into trouble and try to get to the surfice ill never know. im goin to keep this video as a reminder how dangerous this sport is.

I'm quite a newbie diver and have just done my PADI Advanced Open Water in Egypt. One of my (great!) dives was at the Blue Hole. I kinda wish I hadn't watched this but also think it might serve as a good reminder to NEVER overestimate your level of experience or training. A small amount of fear can be a healthy thing and stop you becoming complacent about your safety. If you dive well within your limits and stick to the rules, things like this shouldn't happen. Don't let it put you off diving!!!

That is maybe the biggest weakness of PADI, and it is reflected in all your comments: The RULES? Diving is a high risk sport, no matter the rules. There is no 100% safety, much less when you go beyond the rules. And before you start to bashing me: I am PADI qualified and CMAS and FFESSM....
