Pan's Labyrinth was not such a good movie, although it was beautiful in some parts (like the girl following the 'faerie' and all that)...but at least Peter Jackson has a role in it as the executice producer. I think this could work out. Can't wait! I'm a HUGE Lord of the Rings fan.

i wanted peter jackson to direst the hobbit because lotr was just perfect. they are my favourite movies ever. i just hope del toro doesn't screw it up.

Listen, he isn't going to make the Hobbit disgusting only because you saw a movie he did that had gore, or in case you were not aware Peter Jackson made a movie just as "disgusting" as Pan's Labyrinth or maybe even worse, as some may say since it did have A LOT of blood, and you should check it out if you doubt me, it's called Braindead (or Dead Alive is how it's called in the US).

You also say that he didn't read the books until Peter Jackson made the movie, but you seem to forget that Peter Jackson didn't read the books himself until he saw Ralph Bakshi's version of the LOTR in an unfinished animated version. If you read my previous comment about Peter Jackson also making a "disgusting" film as you would put it, then you'll see that Peter and Guillermo have more in common and have no differences in which may make Hobbit any different than how you imagine it will be.

i will tell you why peter is not directing the hobbit one word MONEY thats why it took so long for them to even start thinking about the movie but peter is producing the film

Braindead was actually made using the most fake blood that's ever been used in a movie. Before and even since then, I don't think there are any movies that have surpassed the gore in Braindead. Still, though; That was made to be funny, not disgusting. The amount of gore Peter put in Braindead was pretty ridiculous. :D But his style has changed since then. Will be interesting to see Del Toro's take on it.

jhonnynohe is right. After Peter sunk all his money into King Kong (which was a failure), it's not surprising he's handing over the reigns to del Toro. Besides, he's the executive producer, so how different do you expect it to be?

OMG! I had no idea LOTR won 17 oscars! they are the best! my favorite film of them all! I cannot wait for the hobbit. but when will we see it? first I heard it was going to be in 2009, than I heard something about 2010 and lately I was told that 2011 it's the corect year.

Guillermo Del Toro creates a lot of good creature, you may say he's a vionary but something is lacking with him. hope he would do justice to the novel and the 1st Ring's movies but no doubt we would see a lot of interesting creatures in here
