OOOOHHHH, what a snack. I use a product called Tara, my friend. You just put a drop on a little piece of the cardboard container, put it out of the way of the animals and the ants run to it, eat it and go back to their nest where it does in the whole colony. If you use it you'll see a lot of ants by where you put it at. Don't try to kill them, the tara does that. Hope it works.

I have never had them inside, however if you know where their nest or accommodations are outside, i have used vinegar and/or just boiling water. Poor it down the ant hole and it seems like a good fix. I still hate doing things like that, but what can I say. I does seem to work without poison.
