The Kinks are the most underrated rock band in history. They made two of the best rock songs of all time, Waterloo Sunset and YOu really got me; however, they never had the sucess they desrved for such a great songwriting talent.

This may be my favorite song of all time. Ray Davies is a genius, and turned out an incredible body of work from FACE TO FACE to MUSWELL HILLBILLIES, of which this is the peak. Thanks for posting this.

Dude, you just covered 1966-71... you didn't even mention the dozens of classics fom 1964 and 1965...check out Schoolboys in Disgrace, Soap Opera, Give the People What they Want, etc. Many great Kinks nuggets can be found in the 70's and 80's, Ray and Dave's music is indeed timeless

You're right, of course. The early stuff stands with the best British Invasion rock, and they did plenty of good material in the 70s and 80s. But I think the '66-'71 era is their peak, and it never got better than "Waterloo Sunset," which I have seen turn people literally to tears.
