I think these people have a hard time realizing that like any composer, all this music was created by dumb luck of playing some random notes on the piano. "Chromatic adventure", please shut up, you're starting to embarrass me.

"playing random notes on the piano"? Oorvakansar: have you ever read anything on Mozart's creative process? what he wrote to his father, for example? it seems that you haven't. Mozart composed "in his head", he "calculated" the music; he also had an excellent memory, so he would "save" many of his music before writing them down. The playing on the piano came way later, on reharsals, concerts and such...

One of the very greatest development sections in music literature. I think he should have spent more time explaining the cleverness of theme developments in this symphony rather than harmonic structure.

This is indeed a great example of Bernstein's brilliance.
I believe this is from his talks at Harvard. His young peoples concerts are more of an introduction and ideas about a piece, less terminology but nevertheless just as valuable. And i might as well take the chance to say HAPPY 90TH BIRTHDAY LENNY!
