eumakka, what do ... ( 2 months ago by zebopper)
eumakka, what do you mean "not bad?" What a rigid, myopic, arrogantly non-progressive teacher you are. Being lost in a sea of obselete classical school rules is no way to teach, of all things, Jazz guitar. Ever heard of Pat Metheny, John McLaughlin, Wes Montgomery, Barney Kessel or Tal Farlow among many other greats? They must all be beneath your abilities due to their extensive use of your non-sensical "no-no" thumb rule. Stanley Jordan uses all ten fingers...wow he'd really fail your class.

I agree zebopper, eclypso is an excellent teacher and player, WHY NOT use your thumb? eumakka has really stiff blind thinking to say thumbs are "no-no's" (what is this, nursery school?) I sometimes wish I had a couple MORE digits on my left hand to grab more notes in a chord. I even once saw the late great Mike Elliot (a Nashville studio god who put out several advanced Mel Bay jazz method books...eumakka, and you?) catch the bottom base note of a chord with his nose (!)Whatever works-it's jazz!
