Using Your Head Voice/Falsetto

Uploaded by: robertantonnyc
Video Description:
All those high/breathy/ethereal notes. You want to do them and we want to hear them. Why? Soaring higher and higher, above the mountains and into the clouds...what a rush. Here's my thoughts.
I had to edit this video after I realized there might be a claim for copyright infringement from 'The Artist formerly...' History: The series was popular at youtube.com/robertanton but that account is suspended right now. I just did an interview on Idolradio.com and you can check out the archives
to hear the interview. People are still looking for the series, so I will choose a few videos to repost. http://www.robertanton.com

Definition for FALSETTO: A falsetto is a very high note sung by a man, sounding like a woman. NOP!

hello, my head voice is really wimpy, and is pretty much a pain to use. how can I make it better. I am still a teen so maybe its that, or should I just practice, practice, practice?
thank you. It's all ... ( 2 weeks ago by robertantonnyc)
thank you. It's all a part of the voice and though we label it as a 'separate' register; we shouldn't think of it as different from the rest of the voice.
The thought of it being fluid motion from one register to the next is the ultimate goal.
If it's 'wimpy', ... ( 2 weeks ago by robertantonnyc)
If it's 'wimpy', the muscles are probably not strong enough yet to support a stronger sound. Your voice is still growing, so just continue to practice and to sing. Do you have a teacher or sing in choir?
That's a very ... ( 2 weeks ago by justjohn86)
That's a very general and loose definition. Because a well trained male voice is capable of singing very high notes in head and even chest voice. Falsetto is more blowing lots of air past the edges of the very tightly pulled vocal folds. Or so I've come to understand.

I don't believe in this "blowing lots of air past..." thingy. lol. Falsetto can be less air or more air; you're just using a different part of the vocal chords.
in order for the ... ( 2 weeks ago by justjohn86)
in order for the edges of the chord to vibrate enough to create the sound, more air must be blown through. because it's only a small portion of the whole fold.

again, I don't agree with that after having sung in my falsetto since youth and trained with many teachers. The focus of the air may seem a little more tense, but MORE air is not necessary.

yeah. maybe i don't mean more air as such. maybe just more concentrated.

I'm a girl, and i want to be able to sing... i don't know how to describe it, but i guess a greater range without going in my head voice? To sound more like easy flowing than really telling when you jump to your head voice. To sound more like the professional singers. Is there anyway to help do that?

lots of professional singers go into their head voice. why make the distinction? You should be using your ENTIRE range to bring about this wonderful thing we call music.
As you exercise the voice and work your entire range, it will strengthen. I didnt really have to sing today, but I warmed up my voice and sange through a few songs.
