And RWD is used for drifting, you can't drift a FWD. Supras, Skylines, Nissan 240s.... all RWD drifting cars.

I have to agree with you that the 2006 was better but most of the proffesionals thought it was ugly so of course subaru listened to them. sadly subaru went a bit extreme on making the impreza wrx soft...also i cant wait until the wrx sti coupe comes out in 2011

Damn that subi is ugly. why can't they get the design right. It's never been a good looking car. Now it's gotten even uglier. THey should just hire some European car designer to design the damn thing for them.

subie went with the hatch for RALLY racing. it keeps the same weight distribution but has a smaller rear overhang. which comes in handy flying around tight roads at 80+mph!

Neither of them are good looking cars from the outside. Two little midget cars. But the Subaru looks like a golf ball that was cut in half, with wheels put on the bottom.

Picking up my new true red MazdaSpeed3 tomorrow.....Can hardly wait!!! My Mazda 3 ('08, also) was destroyed in a powerline fire last Sunday...I was broken hearted. Have a feeling this Speed 3 will help it mend!!!

the mazda actually loses power after 6000 rpms. it's peak torque is around 3300, and peak horsepower is at 5500. and the mazda has 280 ft-lb of torque compared with the subies 226. the only advantage the wrx has over the mazda was awd, which, unless you're driving in snow or something similar, makes as little difference as doesn't even matter, unless you put a lot more horsepower into it (300+). Have driven both, found mazda to handle better and be more responsive.

that's because a rally track typically has low traction conditions. generally a rwd car has higher cornering limits, but is less manageable when traction is lost.

I appreciate blakerey's intelligent response on the comparison because I have not driven both, I'm just a rocky mountain snowboarder who blows by 2wd fwd cars in my suby, he may be right that the maz is better outside the mtns but come rain sleet and sno and real life in general i will never again own a car that is not awd. but if you live in fl or tex or cali 2wd is fine. that new nissan awd 3.3 second supercar for 75k is awd & faster than the fastest vette AND awd? sickies

yeah, but it's now AWD all the time, I'm not 100% sure about the fraction but I think it's 20/80 AWD around the track and can even throw all the power to the rear wheels, but it also can go up to 50/50 AWD like it does on launches.

according to consumer reports, the ms3 averaged 24, with 18 city(their city test is rough), and 32 hw. the wrx, when i looked at previous models (they havn't tested the current model wrx yet), it got 22 combined. as a side note, they also rated the ms3 highest in it's class.

I have noticed very little torque steer while driving it. the only time i notice it is if I really stomp on the gas, but even then, it's very manageable.

the interior of the wrx really does feel cheap, and the mazda doesn't actually feel like a ricer car when you sit in it. it actually felt like the audi a3 imo, but w/ better seats.I would have called that heresy until i saw it for myself, but there it is.

No, not at all, the dyno shows that around 3000 rpms is where you feel the biggest gains, but its throughout the entire rpm range, this is some cool stuff and my car feels like a new car.
