FDR near death in 1940? Well, I suppose 5 years is not a very long time. FDR didn't like the looks of Hitler and the Nazis from the moment he saw them. He never doubted that the US would go to war with Hitler one day--listen to his 1937 speech on this subject found on Youtube. His support for Britain ensured that she would survive the fall of France and the terrible years of isolation, 1940-41. That was followed by massive support for the USSR. Nobody did more to bring down Hitler than FDR!
