Well it DID happen in reality. In the 1960's 14 drivers died in F1 races. Several more F1 drivers were killed in other racing series or testing.
In the 1960's Jackie Stewart said there was 1 chance in 3 that you would not survive all your carreer

Like I said,the kind they don't like to televise,here in the USA.And,yes,citizens of the USA know that there's South and Central America.(no,really)BUT,only the USA has the word AMERICA in it's name.Thus America is the proper nickname for the USA.And does NOT refer to anywhere else on Earth.(no,really)

Still hard to believe they raced at places that were this inherently unsafe...I mean, trees, telephone poles and HOUSES were hazards??? No run-off areas, no Armco barriers, let alone SAFER barriers...it's a wonder more drivers didn't die in those days.

The greatest racing movie in history. Nothing will ever top it, period. To see this at the Cinerama Dome in 1967 was awe inspiring. It has never left my #1 spot in 41 years. The golden age of F1 beautifully captured by the genius of John Frankenheimer in Super Panavision. GENIUS!

The cars didnt make 5g turns, but the drivers still did make errors, like all humans are prone to do. And what a potentially devastating price they had to pay for those mistakes. Thats why those guys were heroes.

If you ever go to Spa you must check out the original circuit - anyone who raced on it is a hero in my book. These guys really earned their money. Although the new Spa is quite a good circuit, the recent modifications to bring it up to F1 standards, such as increasing the run-offs and chopping down lots trees has robbed the track of it's character and now has nothing in common with the awesome original version.

it's a shame that these LEGENDARY racetracks-Nurburgring,Spa-francorchamps and Monza(the pre-1967 version with it's infamous banked section,not the now-current circuit)-aren't up to their original glory
even the original Nordschleife(northern loop)section isn't being used by the f%@*@ng current F1 management board anymore,so as not to destroy their hi-tech machines

The reason they modified these tracks and eliminated others such as Reims, AVUS and Co. was because they were unsafe. Many countries in Europe were thinking about banning formule cars (F1, F2) and sport-prototypes if the killings wouldn't end.

So you take it as it is else there wouldn't have been any F1 at all. As to the domination of one or two teams, with a few exceptional years (1982) that's always been the case in Grand Prix racing since 1906. The difference was that these teams would change as the the gap between the rich and the poor didn't exist in the 60s.

The Masta Kink was a classic corner, If im right thats where Sir Jackie was left for dead but Grahm Hill rescued him by borrowing a spanner from a spectator, in Jackie's autobiography there is a great anecdote about that incident.

Do,s were the days,must of seen this film 50+ times,if you have,nt seen it,you MUST get hold of a copy,from the start when they are at Monaco is simply the best bit of F1 you will see,and by the time it finishes at Monza you will of laughed,cried and been on the edge of your seat.If you love F1 please go to Petitiononline Spa 2008,and maybe we can return to the good old days of racing
