I manthra was thought by father to sons (upanayana)and girls were not allowed to chant it. The reason this was done was because Hindu women preffered to die before their husband did.
This mantra when recited properly will train your breathing pattern and slows your heart rate and makes it strong. This increases your longivity by reducing heart rate.
Children with heart problems learn to squat and reverse their blood circulation to help them breath better.

What a beautiful mantra and a very well-done video. Is this Hindi or Sanskrit? I recently converted to Hinduism and have been studying Sanskrit, the liturgical language of Hinduism. But I am wondering if I should also learn Hindi. I guess a lot is done in Hindi also since it is the modern language of many Hindus, right?

Hi suki, Just learn Sanskrit! That's all you'll need really. The Gayatri mantra is a mantra from the Vedas - so that would be Sanskrit. Mantras are always in Sanskrit. ^_^
