Norway has a ... ( 1 day ago by fralo87)
Norway has a smaller and more integrated community of immigrants. they do not have strong organized crime, italy's heritage, Norway doesn't have to millions illegal immigrants (italy cannot protect its coasts from the hundreds of people coming grom africa on small boats every week) which cannot legally work and often turn to crime and drug dealing. I NEVER SAID GUN OWNERSHIP WAS THE ONLY REASON FOR HIGHER HOMICIDE RATE, I SAID IT WAS A MAJOR REASON
so now you say ... ( 1 day ago by fralo87)
so now you say there was NO mass confiscation? (btw targeted confiscations are common even in our societies. if you arrest a violent villan you take his gun from him. the only difference is thathe more visible and active political opponents of the regime were considere villans, but then again, very few of them were armed)
The GeStaPo's ... ( 1 day ago by peckerwood321)
The GeStaPo's authority superseded any allowances "given" to citizens in the Weapons Law. Yet knowing this you still attempt to assume that citizens were ABLE to increase their arms possession...all the while negating the authority that the GeStaPo had to deem anyone arbitrarily as "Zuverl
ässig" All guidelines as to who was deemed "reliable" was held within the restriction authorities of the GeStaPo alone, which also controlled the regular police.
i would be very ... ( 1 day ago by fralo87)
i would be very careful calling others fools, if i were you. i read your comment "well if more guns mean more crime why people don't kill each others at gun shows". that was powerful- sorry, TALENTED- stupid
sure, there was no ... ( 1 day ago by fralo87)
sure, there was no increase in gun ownership after 1938, that's why when west germany passed sticet gun laws in the 1940s and again in the 50s the police had to confiscate thousands of undeclared guns and pistols (not wehrmacht ordnance)
and i see how you ... ( 1 day ago by fralo87)
and i see how you still miss my point. nazi germany was merely an example to demonstrate that gun ownership doesn't hel against a tyrant (see Iraq, Italy- where in the 20s fascists and unionists used to fight throwing hand granades at each others- spain, even russia up to 1928, and china till the cultural revolution
The US homicide ... ( 1 day ago by peckerwood321)
The US homicide rate as I presented it was directly from the FBI Uniform Crime Statistics and referred to FIREARM HOMICIDES as do the rest of the stats taken from the various justice websites of the countries I listed The Switzerland gun ownership rate is privately owned firearms outside of the mandatory military weapons required to be kept in the home. They can still use them for practice at the range and legally permitted to carry them to and from the range without restriction
I was not calling ... ( 1 day ago by peckerwood321)
I was not calling you a fool in any regard. The quote simply means to refer that gun bans do not prevent criminals(idiots) from accessing weapons including firearms. An intelligent man who shows respect to his fellow man is not considered to be a fool by any stretch...and as such I consider the majority of criminals to be fools in that regard. No insult was being directed to you. The example of gun shows simply presents the fact that the mere presence of guns does not instigate murder.
Targeted ... ( 1 day ago by peckerwood321)
Targeted confiscations in our countries are generally aimed at criminal organizations...and are not directed for political aim at consolidating a monopoly of force against any specific political opposition. The problem I have in general with gun regulations that seek to register firearms and owners in a central database is that they end up being treasure troves of information for any future political party that would seek to disarm it's populace arbitrarily for political consolidation
The other greater ... ( 1 day ago by peckerwood321)
The other greater problem with gun control is that prior to it's inception criminals would tend to prey upon each other murdering looting and pillaging their own kind...but once adopted the violent crime rates go up and the focus of their attacks change to the newly disarmed populace In Canada alone we have seen an increase in violent offenses and gun crimes, including the increase of non-criminals being attacked.
There was an ... ( 1 day ago by peckerwood321)
There was an incident in Ontario Canada about 3 years ago of a 15 year old student getting caught by his parents for having a prohibited Select-fire AK47 in his house. He mailed it to himself from the US after illegally converting it to full-auto. The border between Canada and the US is practically impossible to control and as such it is ridiculous for any Member of Parliament to assume that a gun ban here would affect that.
By my referring to ... ( 1 day ago by peckerwood321)
By my referring to the nature of mob rule as collectivist I am in no way "covertly calling you a commie". I am sticking within the bounds of the English language to explain what a collection of individuals with similar motivations can do to those who do not share such motivations or ideologues. Using the word "collective" is appropriate. And believe me, if I ever call you a communist then you will know it...cause I would say it clearly and with a fervent pointing of fingers. ; )
The argument ... ( 1 day ago by peckerwood321)
The argument determining the nature of collective groups of individuals governing others' actions is considered to be summed up as mob rule. To use a quote: "Democracy is two wolves and one lamb voting on what to have for supper; Liberty is a well armed lamb contesting the vote" -- Benjamin Franklin
"Whenever the ... ( 1 day ago by peckerwood321)
"Whenever the Legislators endeavour to take away, and destroy the Property of the People, or to reduce them to Slavery under Arbitrary Power, they put themselves into a state of War with the People, who are thereupon absolved from any farther Obedience" -- John Locke
first: the fbi ... ( 1 day ago by fralo87)
first: the fbi stats are supposed to be the same of the department of justice, which makes your different stats odd. second. if those stats reflect only firearms homicides they're still wrong, cause it would mean that 90% of murders in italy and europe in general happens with firearms (quite unlikely- people stabs and strangle only in the us, apparently...) gun ownership in switzerland (in general, dunno your stats) refers also to assault guns cause they can be use- single shot mode- for hunting
it does not ... ( 1 day ago by fralo87)
it does not instigate homicides, but increases their numbers (how else would you explain a 100% difference between europe and the us? immigration? in france they have 10 millions badly integrated immigrants. poverty? portugal' per capita gdp is one fourth of that of the us. or maybe there are just more villans, for some reason? and the mafia? the ETA, the IRA, Red brigades, neo nazis in europe?
why would a ... ( 1 day ago by fralo87)
why would a dictatorship necessarily need to confiscate guns? Saddam, Khomeini, Assad, Sadat, Gheddafi, Suharto, almost all african tyrants, and even Mao and soviet russia (for several years)ruled without confiscating guns. dictators usually come to power with the support of a large part of the pop. Mussolini didn't need to confiscate guns, the majority of the population- shame on us- loved him for 20 years. your database argument is the "red dawn" histeria recycled
well, that is a ... ( 1 day ago by fralo87)
well, that is a problem which is specific of canada. even though you should remember that statistically canada is still way safer than the us, and that if in the short term maybe homicides have been increasing, the long term trend in the western world (US comprised) is toward a decrease. fifty years ago in almost any country homicides were double the present number. yet, i'm surprised you can mail assault rifles (shouldn't the shopowner see who's buying, at least, and the mail service check it?)
i agree. but ... ( 1 day ago by fralo87)
i agree. but democracy is an abstract ideal, which cannot be completely achieved. and often democracy turns out to be mob rule. as i said, in our parliaments wolves often vote to damage us lambs (and sometimes we are the wolves ourselves). we are represed (softly) all the time (imposed taxes, laws we disagree on), that's just how the world is. u can only draw the line and decide what abuses you're willing to accept to live in a society and which you will refuse
and note that often ... ( 1 day ago by fralo87)
and note that often dictators look forward for a (limited) armed insurrection if they have still strong support (see saddam with the kurds, he sized the chance of their riot to slaughter them). a gun or rifle is not very useful against the state (which has elicopters, airplanes, tanks and proper soldiers). a citizen militia might have been a deterrent against tyranny in the 18th century, now is often a justification (in front of the world) for an indiscriminate mass killing
that may be true ... ( 1 day ago by leanonme1)
that may be true but a government will fall if their citizens who run the economy are dieing in a revolt
any dictatorship ... ( 1 day ago by fralo87)
any dictatorship lasts only until it has popular support. sometimes a majority, sometimes a strong (armed or rich or wtvr) minority. a large scale repression is sometimes necessary or even desirable to remain in power. obviously if the riot is so widespread it involves the majority of the population, the damage to the economy is the least of their worries, they wouldn't have the political strenght (support from the army, the bureaucracy etc.) to repress it.
that may have been ... ( 1 day ago by leanonme1)
that may have been true in the past but now technoligy is changeing that because now weapons are capable of operating (and killing) unmaned.
While some weapons ... ( 20 hours ago by peckerwood321)
While some weapons may be capable of autonomous action, they will never replace the soldier in the field until they can outthink and outwit his ability to be uncanny and unpredictable. Any military can be brought to it's knees...you just have to have the right battlefield suitable for kneeling. ; )
