TO an extent but think of it this way, some one in a shit school can still have the IQ and self motivation to learn for themselves so really, I think anyone, can be intelligent, and besides, So the aborigines weren't as good in areas like modernism but they are good story tellers and have a vast knowledge of technology and history. So really, everyone is intelligent and yes, they were just have a little joke in this particular episode.
