Awsome. I can't believe this. I am the operator on the rip cat. Can't believe I found this. I just signed up for youtube and found this today.
The company doing the dirt work is PKS. Better known as Peter Kewit
sons. One of the largest earthmoving companies of the world. I have worked for them off and on for 5 years. I would like to know who shot this footage and say thanks.

Kewit doesn't have 27's way to small for the jobs we do. I'm the rip cat operator in this video. We were using the 57's at the other end of the job. We move 1 million yards in 1 month and that includes the finish work.

On this job we were ... ( 1 year ago by wantfreegas)
On this job we were moving about 30k to 35k yards a day. This was good material. Using both 651's and 657 push pulls.
On rock jobs we averaged 25k- 27k yards a day. We would do a million yards from start to finish in less then 30 days. That's impressive my friends.

This was just one phase of the job and think it was just over 1m yards. The whole Del Web job was around 8 million yards and I was in on most of it.
It went out in phases and I was with Tiechert and Ford const. as well.
That job fed a lot of people.

Im from Ohio and have never been farther west than Illinois. What's that ground like in California, because I notice there is sometimes a million yards to moveon a Wal-Mart! Could you fill me in on everything and how everything works out there?? I want to learn.
Thanks! P.S. I'm 14, that's why I'm learning

STAY IN SCHOOL!lol
Life in the dirt has been good to me for 27yrs. but I'm sick of if. Wages are good in most states if your a union member and I encourage you to start with them.
The Operating Engineers have excellent apprenticship training programs, and again, it all depends on the area your in.

We were moving 30k yards a day, 8hr shift. Yeah, that was nice to have some tatter dirt for a change. But if it aint ripped, your not going to get a load. PKS usaully gets rock jobs, and I'm sick of rock.

Your right about that.57"s would have been much more productive. But the material is like hard pan and you aint getting a load without proper support.

Yea, Stay In School!! I've been running machines for 12 years and so far...if you absoltutly want something to do with big machines, go with the railroad. Better $ and more benefits. I will be posting a vid sometime next week on us push-pullin' with 637Es out west, Sheridan, Wyoming.
