Thaks for the reply mikr1954 .... No, I was not aware this was recorded some 19 years ago. At my age, it's hard to remember 19 years ago... Lol...... but I think I new at least a few of these things mentioned here.

I thought the same way, "we will cannibalize each other. I believe, the starving sane and moral will defend against the insane and blood thirsty immorral. It may just be a battle as described by the bible (good vs. evil) And yes, there will be people trying to cannibablize, and then those who will become vegitarians with their own gardens. A society doesn't lose its morals toward each other overnight (but who knows if it means SURVIVING) It really is terrifying!

Wasn't he the guy behind the series "Captain Planet"? I swear, if all environmental awareness efforts were as creative, accessable and as fun as that TV series, people would take a lot more interest. It was also one of the first TV series in the West that I can think of that had a major Russian character.

Most of all are over our heads when it comes to people like Carl Sagan, but one of his key messages was that that shouldn't matter. A basic understanding of our world and the rest of the universe is available to everyone; that is one of Carl's greatest messages in my opinion.

I agree. If people regard science as incomprehensible, then they wouldn't listen to the advice of scientists. There are many demagogues and charlatans more than willing to talk in elegant ways to those that are "left out" of the sunshine of modern knowledge.

I disagree: Ted was having the time of his life. Like most good businessmen, Ted Turner loved to talk to men smarter than himself. A good deal of proper business is being willing to humbly and carefully listen to experts and appreciate their opinions.
No-one leaves business-school with a knowledge of every fact and discipline, but in business you might find yourself dealing with sociological problems one day and thermodynamics the next, especially at the corporate level. Listening is vital.

Watch Sagan's explanation of the Drake Equation. One thing he pointed out in this video is that humans have the capability to correct themselves in the future. But this was almost 20 years ago. We may have already gone too far. I'm like you, I hope to god that some encounter with an exo-solar civilization will unite the human race - but I doubt we have enough time.

Carl Sagan appealed to a generation of lost confused young males (science geeks) most of which probably have never actually kissed a human girl and lived in their parent`s basement and attend Star Trek conventions and have no sense of the ineffable and spiritual side of existence....
