Death Note is an extraordinary feat of storytelling. It's clever: Light and L are both brilliant and get caught in a death race to find out one another's true identities before the other. It's philosophical: Kira kills criminals to purify the world and L, believes it is not Kira's place to judge them and sets out to capture him. It's a story where only the reader/watcher can decide who is right. It can also be sad at times. You feel sorry for everyone involved, regardless of who you agree with.
