Am I the only one who has read the reports? In brief, following successive and frequent changes of command and a lack of any control coordination in training at the base errors in training were prevelant. This was reflected in this non scheduled display prior to a show. Which was to be the pilots last before standing down.

It looks like the constant tight turn dropped airspeed so much that there wasn't enough lift. Looks like he lost power but with eight engines that is unlikely! Pilot error.

He didn't lose power, he screwed up. The accident investigation report is available online if you google it. The pilot was a nutcase with a history of hot dogging and had been warned about it, one squadron commander even refused to let his men fly with the jackass.

That makes sense, as I said loosing power seems extremely unlikely. Given this guy's history(!), would you let him take a B52 to an air show? How many lives where saved by him crashing the day before?!

Looks to me like a high-speed stall. Basically, the angle of attack makes the airflow over the top of the wing and the bottom of the wing the same speed and you lose lift. You drop out of the sky... you could be doing 2000 miles an hour and get one of those stalls...
