i know a tasty tidbit about this! apparently tihs woman eileen lived across the street from sam - she was the mother of one of his buddies. the song makes a lot of sense when you know this (i'm a man, not a boy; i've been living for you since the age of 17...).

a couple years ago, sam came up to me in a bar in north ontario... swear to god... introduced himself to me and couple of my friends, like we didn't know who he was lol he was with his band passing through town on tour, but not playing there cuz it's small. this guy is a class act all the way... pretty much the coolest stranger I've ever chatted with... and he was drinking northern ale on tap, the local swill in a big plastic cup, not some fancy import in a bottle.. cuz he's fucking cool.
