Bijou and Rachel are two of the hottest girls in this movie. Besdies, Kelli Garner, as Heather. This movie was very good, and done well.

In real life, Bobby Kent was a steroids freak who had frequent "roid rage" episodes. Lisa Connelly had low self-esteem due to her weight problem. Ali Willis was exactly as she is in the film. However, the essence of Bobby
Marty is accurate. Their relationship is a sort of co-dependency.

They are right, it IS a masterpiece, and easily one of the best films of the decade, even more powerful than KIDS.

Yeah there is a picture of the real Bobby Kent online that shows what an intimidatingly large person he was. I think the director intentionally put an actor in the role who wasnt physically powerful, to show that his bullying of Marty Puccio was psychological, but it also sort of negates the rationale for them all "ganging up" on him as they did. He was built like a pit bull.
Still, its a truly great film.

I just looked up the one photo I could find. You're right, he did look intimidating. It looked even scarier because of the low quality of the photo. I guess the director had a point to make about aimless middle-class kids with no supervision, and he certainly made that point. Larry Clark's movies are all about reckless kids and he always blames their troubles on a lack of parental supervision.

When you put a picture of the real Bobby Kent (large and very aggressively alpha) next to the real Marty Puccio (skinny and introverted looking), it definitely puts a much different spin on the story than the film portrayed. The film makes you wonder why muscular Brad Renfro doesnt just beat the hell out of skinny Nick Stahl. In real life, it was physically impossible, and that's why they had to conspire together to kill one man. The man was built like Lou Ferrigno.

Bobby Kent (according to the book) behaved one way with parents/teachers and another way with his peers. His parents seemed unaware of his bad habits, including his steroid use. Kent's family was from Iran (their name was originally Kayam). I wonder if his heritage have had something to do with it?

Excellent flick! It's a rare movie that is as good as the book and this one is: it's so true to it that at times it even uses diaglogue from the book verbatim. I highly recommend both tho be forewarnded: they are disturbing.
Great to see Ebert again (RIP Siskel).
