The FCC long ago ... ( 1 week ago by walterglanz)
The FCC long ago handed over all broadcast air space virtually for free to giant media conglomerates. Penn Jillette, Viacom/CBS errand boy, whining that his $500,000,000 former Viacom/CBS pal Howard Stern (this video is pre-Sirius) is hurting from the FCC is hilarious. Stern's adult satellite network now depends on FCC broadcast radio censorship for subscribers.
Digital broadcasting may change it, but for now with internet and cable use replacing brodcasting, the FCC is close to irrelevant.

Considering that suit was started long after this episode aired I fail to see how it's relevant.

This video is obfuscation, or just idiotic. The FCC does a favor to cable and satellite owners, and internet providers, by censoring broadcast content for profanity and nudity. The big broadcast media owners own cable, satellite and internet outlets, so the FCC is their friend. The FCC has never been anything but a toy to scapegoat when necessary. The real FCC story is it gave away broadcasting rights worth billions to people like Penn & Teller's sugar daddy at Viacom/CBS, Sumner Redstone.

"The FCC does a favor to cable and satellite owners, and internet providers, by censoring broadcast content for profanity and nudity."
Hahahahaha are you JOKING? They do them a favor, yeah sure, in fact that's the exact reason why preofnaity and nudity ridden HBO and Showtime get viewers, it's because most viewers hate nudity and profanity. The FCC tramples on free speech my friend, and if every cable channle could have nudity an
d profanity Showtime would have more competition.

The FCC gave away ... ( 6 days ago by bc9021010011)
The FCC gave away for free billions of dollars worth of broadcast rights to the Big-5 media monopolies including Sumner Redstone's Viacom. Viacom owns Showtime which owns "Penn & Teller: Bullshit," so you will never see a "Bullshit" episode about that REAL story about the FCC. Penn & Teller never piss off Uncle Sumner, the multibillionaire who made them multimillionaire errand boys.

By puritanically censoring broadcast television and radio, the FCC sends millions of customers to cable TV and satellite radio, where profanity and nudity are allowed.
Pretty simple concept. Since the Big Media conglomerates own both broadcast and cable/satellite stations, it would seem the FCC is a useful little tool to increase profits. Howard Stern's publicity campaign about FCC censorship immediately preceded his $500M move from broadcast to satellite radi
o. No lucky accident.

Then if penn and teller are coporate puppers like you say then LOGIC would say that they would either be pro-FCC or at least take back what they said. And they haven't. Please explain to me why they haven't.
Obfuscation ... ( 4 days ago by tonzimala)
Obfuscation confuses an issue, masks the salient points, and causes the general public to lose interest.
The FCC gave away billions worth of public broadcast airways to the Big 5 Mainstream Media conglomerates who already controlled what America sees and hears. That's the real FCC story, but as Viacom mogul Sumner Redstone benefited from that bit of corporate welfare, and he owns "Bullshit," you wil
l never see Penn & Teller talk about it.
When this video was ... ( 4 days ago by tonzimala)
When this video was made, Howard Stern was carrying on a PR campaign about being fined for obscenity. At the time his radio station was owned by the same man who owned "Penn & Teller: Bullshit," Viacom mogul Sumner Redstone. So much for full disclosure.
Howard then got a $500,000,000 satellite radio contract. The FCC by censoring broadcast radio & television drives audiences to satellite & cable, where shows are allowed to use profanity and nudity.
Subscription ... ( 4 days ago by tonzimala)
Subscription satellite radio like cable TV starts w/ the lure of uncensored programming, commericial-free, as it is paid for by hefty subscription fees. Eventually censorship creeps in, as well as commercial advertising. Since the big five media monopolies own the major broadcast and cable operations thanks to the FCC, the public is at their mercy.
Viacom mogul Sumner Redstone, not content to control TV, radio, film, & publishing launched his acquisition crusade on Google/YouTube last year.

I love how when a comment here provides any information not distributed on Fox News or CNN, the shills jump on it, call it a conspiracy theory, recast the information as straw dog paranoia to easily knock down.
We really do not hear much on Mainstream Media about who owns media and how much money they make. Mostly we hear about the religion of Democratic politicians (if not Judeo-Christian) and where they stick their penises (if not in their wive's vagina).
I'll say it again ... ( 4 days ago by FatherTime89)
I'll say it again if the FCC were gone vanished disappeared it would be easier for smaller groups to get their own radio or TV station.
The reason they don't mention that is because the episode was about profanity not media ownership.
This video was ... ( 4 days ago by virindigo)
This video was intended to obfuscate the true nature of the FCC as the Big Media tool it is. Big Media got billions of dollars worth of public airways give-aways with the FCC rubber stamp.
Viacom owner (and Showtime/"Penn & Teller: Bullshit" owner) Sumner Redstone did in fact get a juicy piece of that pie. I am so glad that a ruthless media mogul with a $9,000,000,000 net worth got a billion or so more in welfare from the US govt.
Ok, shills, come and enforce the lies in the video now.
This small segment ... ( 4 days ago by FatherTime89)
This small segment of a half hour episode on profanity was meant solely to bash the FCC for censorship they even say there's no reason for it to exist. The episode was not about the FCC or media in general but instea dit was on profanity. Getting into how the FCC allows a few companies to control media would've been off topic.
The Jefferson quote ... ( 4 days ago by bc9021010011)
The Jefferson quote could apply to corporate fascism. With Viacom/CBS mogul Sumner Redstone owning hundreds of TV, radio, cable, film, publishing outlets, and now taking away our right to privacy on YouTube, I guess since he owns this show we will never see a "Penn & Teller: Bullshit" episode about his megalomania. One never sees anything on Big 5 Mainstream Media about media itself. They hate anybody talking about their virtual monopoly over what we see and hear, including news reporting.

Except now that we have the internet they don't have a monopoly anymore (although a monopoly is one person/group not 5 different groups).

When's the last time you saw an Iraqi child w/ its limbs blown off by US bombs on TV?
Framing the FCC as "they don't let people say fuck on TV" is simplistic & obfuscating. FCC is a tool of the Big 5 Media corporations w/ a virtual monopoly on what we watch. The FCC gave them billions of $ worth of public broadcast channels for nothing.
Result: 1) Fox News regime propaganda, 2) not quite as bad as Fox News propaganda, 3) infotainment like Penn & Teller that echoes Fox News propaganda.
