Stephen Harper, Jack Layton: No Thanks

Uploaded by: scottyross00
Video Description:
Both federal party leaders are proposing a referendum that would change our Canada into a form of government operated by one, the Prime Minister. Both are misguided. One in his attempt to be more democratic, the other for political shock value.

I think you should listen to your own words and ask yourself: am I an idiot?
Lets put this together: - The Prime Minister wants to remove his own patronage powers - Far from being a chamber of "sober second thought", the Senate is made up of party hacks and losers appointed by the Prime Minister. There has never been a case where the Senate has opposed legislation when th
e majority in the Senate (Liberals) also control the lower house.
- Ergo, the only ... ( 8 months ago by radically1)
- Ergo, the only time it can be considered a "second thought" is when it serves the Liberal party's interest in opposing the other parties.
- The Prime Minister wants to put it too a referendum. In other words, democracy and the people will decide the fate of the Senate - not the Prime Minister.
- The Prime Minister is not against checks and balances on the Executive. He just wants the people making those decisions to be elected.
Hilarious how you ... ( 8 months ago by radically1)
Hilarious how you assume that a national referendum would somehow prevent a debate.
Also hilarious is the fact that you would probably prefer to avoid elections altogether if there was a way for you to tick "Liberal" off on your tax return. This is evidenced by your willingness to defend the indefensible.

You call members of the Canadian government losers? Are you even Canadian? It's just a bit disgusting how you pursue your beliefs to the length of calling people names.

I don't know where you're getting this stuff. Do you think I'm a Liberal fanatic? If the Liberal Party wanted to abolish the Senate I'd still maintain my position.
Our founding fathers didn't want those people elected, reason is against having those people elected, the only people for are only basing their opinion on a primitive concept of democracy.

Why do you make me out to be a partisan? I am a person who has beliefs that are best represented by the Liberal Party, not the other way around.
100% Democracy ... ( 8 months ago by scottyross00)
100% Democracy cannot work. We elect representatives to make the day-to-day votes for us in Parliament so we can live our lives. 100% democracy would mean we'd all have to quit our jobs and participate in Nation-wide votes multiple times a day.

To be fair Harper has tryed to reform the senate. I think his agreement with the NDP about abolishing the senate is jsut that, for shock value! I am all for giving the provinces equal representation and having the senate democratized, its about damn time!
