agree 1000% with asshole patrol but what he forgets is that the british monarchy is more than a figure head. it is an institution in which is endowed constitutional powers which "in times of national emergency or crisis" can override the democratic institutions of the uk. in other words, the monarchy is the the political wmd of the ruling class. it's time we ditched the whole rotten system .

She really is such an elegant waver. I'll miss her when she's gone. And she does such a good job at maintaining political stability in Britain that so many of her compatriots find themselves with nothing better to do than post misinformed, anti-American blather on YouTube rather than dedicate that energy to self-education or participation in the global movement for true social change. Royal assent. Parliament must swear ALLEGIANCE TO THE QUEEN before taking their seat in government. Members of the Armed Forces swear allegiance to the Crown, not the Prime Minister. The UK Prime Minister must ask permission of the queen to hold an election. How is this ignorant Yank doing? In Canada's federal system, the headship of state is not a part of either the federal or provincial jurisdictions; the Queen reigns impartially over the country as a whole.
