It seems like some of you arent getting the meaning of this song. At the beginning she is like 4, and she is getting ready to get into the snow with her dad, she goes into the drifts...and falls, which the Drifts mean danger. her dad wants her to stand up because she thinks her dad will always be there. the white horses are still in bed, which means she isent in love. spring, in poetry, is when things start to bloom, which usually means children and young adults.

summer is usually, in poetry, when things are getting older which means teenagers. she is discovering boys, and "flowers are competing for the sun" which means girls are trying to get the sun, which are boys and she thinks that the girls care about the boys and the boys dont care about them. the ice is getting thin, and she knows that her chances of getting true love is almost over, which is middle age in fall. it is winter again, and her hair is gray. she is around 70-90.
