Why is the fire inexplicable? A huge spacecraft is plunging from the atmosphere from over 100,000 feet in altitude. You bet there's gonna be fire during the re-entry.

fricton makes heat and when a ship the size of Big G is falling that fast the air around her is gonna light up like a Christmas tree. Oxygen is one of the things needed to make fire and friction and heat are two more things that are needed. Big G had all three as she was falling.

As far as I can tell, it's pretty damned hard to drop a blunt balistic object originally at rest with respect to the atmosphere and get it to catch fire. You don't expect coins dropped from a tall building to burn up. You don't see jet aircraft at Mach 2 catching fire in flight. Any heat generationg comes from the compression (not friction) of the gas at the leading edge. Look at the clip again, and even though Galactica is barely moving, it spontaneously catches fire which is not realistic.

Id also point out that there are two versions of the rape scene. The one from TV is edited so it looks like they stop the rape in time. But on the dvd and it looks like this video is the version where they come in partway after the rape has started. Im not sure which version is considered canon though.

First few seconds it looked like Galactica was just sitting ther when it was actually falling. Wind shere goes off in the midsection, then heat friction goes off in the mid and front areas...
Galactica was not made for entry, and duh you do not expect those things to burn off Treknologist, but what you are saying is that the ship was on fire, most of that stuff burning up was proabably parts of the ship herself. It has been through a lot.

Atmospheric re-entry 'fire' is not the ship burning, but the air itself compressing due to supersonic speeds, and as it compresses the particles actually ignite due to extreme heat. So the corrosion that occurs on the hull is actually due to extreme vibration rather than heat in most cases, but it does serve the purpose of protecting the occupants from the heat.

Um, well, I disagree with most of this. All scenes from the new BSG are better than the scenes from the old one. and Where is the Starbuck blowing up scene? that deserves to be in there. Also, why was number one a to be continued???
Next time don't narrate so much, just introduce the scene and let people watch it, don't explain why YOU like it.
