I apologize for the quality ... but YouTube only allows up to 100MB per video and the difference between 20MB (what I upload at) and 100MB is not overly visible and the difference in upload time is great!

That, I did not know. However, if he was ripping it from the DVD and then converting it to the 20MB... Then there would be a significant loss in quality. By using Xvid, he would be able to upload the highest quality video before youtube mangles it into FLV.
