I don't think his issue is merely buying things. He's making fun of people who buy to feel important, buy to feel loved, buy out of boredom... all the time getting deeper and deeper into debt... all while the economy goes into recession, and the housing buble bursts. Ah haaaaaa!

Reverend Billy is made of Awesome. Pretty sure it's partly and act, of course, to seem over-the-top and all, but hopefully his heart is in the right place. This documentary is also by Morgan Spurlock, the dude who did "Super-size Me", which is great. I love Spurlock's work.

I just watched this movie. It's not really religious, its about social change. They are sort-of a traveling comedy act that tries to raise awareness of over-consumption. Over-consumption IS a big issue in this country. Our buying habits either support or oppose horrible working conditions in other countries--depending on where we choose to spend our paychecks. President Carter spoke about consumerism as one of the causes of the US economic recession in the 1970's.
