That's complete and total bullshit. The confederacy supported slavery, whereas the Union sought to disband it. Period. Yes, there was a lot of slavery related commerce in the north, but to quote Robin Williams: "If the confederate flag is just a symbol of states' rights than the swastika is just a tibetan good luck charm."

There were obviously more racists confederates than "yankees." The confederate flag was a symbol for the army from the south that wanted to continue slavery, or form their own nation. The confederate flag is a symbol of racism. That is not to say that there were not racists in the north. But the south was and is more racist than the north.
