Exactly. But I do think that there are more good people among religious because they have a more strict moral upbringing than atheists. Along with believing, going to Church etc is a lot of praying, reading about Saints, reading the Bible which over and over tells you to be honest, not kill or commit adultery, in short do no evil.
My take is that there are generally more good people among believers, it goes with believing so to speak, and that there are many immoral and semi-immoral atheists.

You cannot make a claim just because you think its right. These are the real statistics. The bible also tell you over and over to stone people. Morals come from our collective understanding and observations of the world. The change with time because they are not written in stone or "holy" books.

In schools, people are taught that science is the way and that religion is passe. The further up you go, the more marked that message is.
So it is not surprising there are more believers in jails. Because those who go to school for many years usually end up in high-paying jobs and therefore never ever need to commit a crime. And, being smart, they just commit crimes they are more likely to get away with. Old Testament says stone,

However, the punishment aside does not change the fact that what is considered wrong might actually BE wrong.
And, society sometimes makes changes for the worse. It is not guaranteed that what we have tomorrow is better than what we had yesterday. That may apply to materialism, but not spiritually. What the Ten Commandments state as wrong has never been overthrown, it is still wrong. It is wrong because
it IS evil or LEADS TO evil. Do you think stealing or adultery will ever be right??

To paraphrase Bill Maher: you can do all the great things that religious followers do without all the bells and whistles of Religion. People do great things and/or remain untainted by greed and they don't have to have a religion. My aunt does so much for the community and she is an atheist.

Of course I don't think stealing r killing will ever be right, these concepts were not invented by religion. People weren't all killing and stealing left right and centre untill the 10 commandments fell out of the sky. Society does not get these rules from the bible they existed before. If we gt all our morals from the bible we wouldnt have "graven images", If the NT only counts why is the 10 commandents mentioned in this discussion isn't that in the OT.

What are 'graven images'? I know, but since you use it, can you explain it? I want to know if you throw words around you aren't really qualified to use. Sorry if that is harsh, but I find calling out bullshitters as early as possible saves a lot of time. So which is it?
The 10 Commandments are mentioned first time in Old Testament, but Jesus says directly, to a person who asks what he must do to inherit eternal life: "If you want to live, keep the Commandments." This is Jesus = New Testament.
