roarsky: Barring a physical or mental handicap, if you are poor, it is because you did not study in school, work hard and do something productive with your life! Countless studies DO show that most poverty is caused through bad decision making and laziness. Why tax someone that did work hard to pay for someone that didnt. I am from a poor family, but through hard work (and no college) I have a decent life, it is because I made sacrifices and alot of hard work.

Could you give some examples of those studies? I've seen very little solid evidence on either side of that argument. Mostly just uncited claims and anecdotes.

I'm a democrat and I feel like I need to be innoculated any time I venture south of the 40th parallel, or attend any sporting event except curling and extemporaneous debate. Canada should annex the northern US and build a wall to keep out all the rednecks. Mexicans are okay to come through though - they're cool. Seriously though, why are we paying for staffers to go to a Nascar race in the first place?
