It's ok if you don't like it. (By "you," I mean people in general.) But to say it "ruined" the original for you? That's just silly.
And yes, I agree that context here is important. It was 1992, and she was doing something radical to the most popular song of the time. She wasn't doing some lame ass note by note copy as a supposed "tribute" to Kurt Cobain. I still think a good artist would recognise a good artist. Fans of good
music should hopefully be able to do the same...
