I can see a future where the tolerant, liberal, inclusive philosophies of Unitarian Universalism replace the bigoted, reactionary, and hateful dogma of Christianity.

How come can be ... ( 2 months ago by muslimah35)
How come can be Christian, Buddhist and whatever else been together in a church? What is their believe? I thought the unitarian church were Christians who believe in the unity of God, but If they are not really a church they should be called the Unitarian Universalists Gathering then.
Its about ... ( 2 months ago by Treemeadow)
Its about respecting everyone's right to discover the truth in their own way. You may not think it is the right way, but we allow each other that right, because we respect that person's ability to make their own decisions.
A popular UU ... ( 1 month ago by amyliz430)
A popular UU metaphor is "One light, many windows." We believe that there is one God/Truth/Divine but that it shines through many windows. The way we see the light may be different, but it still comes from the same source -- a source that can never be fully known or understood in this life. We believe that there is no one right or wrong spiritual path -- it is all about finding what is right for yourself while following guidelines of love, compassion, etc. Hope that explains it somewhat.

It welcomes those who do not beleive that we can be stronger than the establishment--only as good as everyone else. The values that millions died for are non-existent. NICE=Right.

i'm excited about the possibility of this spreading, and i'm no christian, but i disagree with the idea that the teachings of christianity are fundamentally wrong. it all depends on how you interpret the bible.
maybe that's what you meant, i'm not sure...
I think that ... ( 1 month ago by Treemeadow)
I think that offering incentives to people to change their faith path is against the central idea of U.U- that each induvidual is capable of finding their own faith path, within or outside of U.U.
You can't just ask someone to convert- or bribe them. The Catholic church did that in the Dark Ages. Conversion of anyform is deeply spiritual, and must come from within.

its so nice to watch this video for the first time tonight. i just learned about the shootings in knoxville. i've been a UU for over 15 years (joined as a teenager). I am so proud to be UU and grateful for the community it gives me.
No, anyone is ... ( 1 month ago by maroth86)
No, anyone is welcome, but not everyone is christian..at all. It's more of a spiritual and philosophical thing. Nobody tells you what to do, but you might go every week and get a lesson from a different source. It might be from one source one week (maybe the new testament) and then maybe some philosophical work by an author the next.
I didn't know that ... ( 1 month ago by MusTheatre1)
I didn't know that this religion existed until I read my Thank God for Evolution Book.
Noticed that several of the churches were of this faith that hosts the Leaders of that movement. My prayers are with your church TVUV in Knoxville. God help the survivors and the community withstand the stress and strain of the evil that has visited them.
hmm, im really ... ( 1 month ago by YourOasis97)
hmm, im really starting to like this. since i left the christian church last year, because i didn't feel comfortable in it, i've been meaning to develop my spirituality in my own way at home but i'd also like to be part of a community that has the same beliefs as i do. because thats the only reason why i stayed in that church for so long. i like being part of a group and having their support. i guess i'll need to find out more about this then.

aw that was a great video. i love the last part and the preacher's sermon. i shall pray that your values and your movement may grow even more as the years go by and i will also pray for the church shooting that occurred this past sunday. God bless you all.
Your statement is ... ( 1 month ago by vasampso)
Your statement is absolutely true. They should not call themselves a "church" as the word "church" is straight out of the Bible. If an athiest can go to the UU then the word "church" should not be used. More like a community center or meditation hall.

Well this lighted torch symbolysm is very interesting. To say the light of knowlege is the beacon of this group, ok good but do you call this religious or just community togetherness? The athiesm thing all woven together with it, I'm sorry help me out I don't get it.
It originated with ... ( 4 weeks ago by gingerbreadmun)
It originated with the Unity of god but the religion or movement (if you prefer) has moved on. The church, chapel, worship space, meeting hall - they go by many names, are places where people can come and get inspiration from readings biblical or other faith scriptures, and peoples words and thoughts to help them discover their own faith. It is fair to be a church because most people go to worship "god" what/whoever they believe that to mean.

Blessings upon on the Knoxville church, such evil could not have been placed on a more caring and compassionate group of people.

I think that many ... ( 2 weeks ago by jlpixler)
I think that many UUs would agree that you don't need to call their place of worship a "church". I think it's a word many people relate to, and that's why they use it. But I think a community center or meditation hall fits, too. I bet a lot of UUs would like to coin their own name for our centers, too. I don't think they mean it as a Biblical reference- more like a connection to a familiar idea in our society. Thanks for the insight!
Anyone who feels ... ( 1 week ago by JCT601)
Anyone who feels that this is not a bonafide religion (whatever that means) should note that Thomas Jefferson identified himself with the Unitarians. Suggest to your most conservative colleague that this means that he was therefore without religion . . . see where it gets you. Anyone who assumes that because we welcome Atheists into our fold we are not a religion, but are instead just a community group, needs to understand where religion is going, rather than where it has been.
