It failed to capture a fraction of what Bird crammed into his 35 years. Eastwood, in a way, missed a chance to promote Bird and Bebop to a much wider audience using his celebrity. I meant "movie" as "moving pictures" rather than a "movie" about Bird. I remember seeing this on television some years ago and it being promoted as "the only moving image of Charlie Parker." And still the bugger barely moves!!!!

And another thing, the bloke was a self-distructive, narcissistic psycopath who was, on the evidence of this "movie" in the advanced stages of chronic liver disease as evidenced by his corpulence and plump fingers. Not that that stopped him creating a new language in music which we hear to this day in most lifts (elevators) and shopping centres (malls)

Generally yes, but Dizzy always played like that. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe he had some kind of mouth problem where he had to play like that. If not, that's just the way he wanted to play. Honestly, he sounds quite good, so it's fine.

No, Dizzy didn't have a mouth dissease or something. What's really amazing is that he was able to find out how to get air in his mouth, and actually in between his skin and his flesh in his cheeks. That's why he inflates when he plays, you see that his neck even blows up with air.

the Kansas accent thing made me laugh- I guess his parents musta been from the south because everyone around here talks with the nasally weather reporter voice. although, he does sound a lot like my grandpa, who's from "deep Kansas" but then again, Bird was from KC which is about as far away from deep Kansas as you can get while still in fact being in Kansas
