chatterlying, Dl was installed in 1950 when he was 15. According to the 17-point agreement, tibetan noble classes were supposed to act to reform the political system and abandon the slavery system. Evidences suggested DL and the leadership surrounding him did nothing what they needed to do according to the agreement and did everything they could to resist the political changes and tried to hold on as long as they could. The slavery situation was worsening toward the bottom of 1858 and 1959.

misChimp, the soldiers should be there according to the agreement. Where is the evidence that soldiers were there to interfere the local govt? Ask yourself, who benefited from free slaves? Slavers themselves and the Chinese govt who was determined to change the slavery system; and who would lost big if that was allowed to happen? The serf-lords and slaver-owners like DL himself. That's why they did everything they could to resist the changes. Is that too hard for you to figure it out?
