I disagree. Dope is such a terrible thing that whatever it takes to keep someone from getting hooked it is justified. Janis is dead and you can't hurt a corpse. But to somehow try to say that she was a dope addict and great hero is like saying that George Bush is a great american drunk.

In every hero there are faults, imperfections, mistakes, or unfavorable characteristics. You seem to believe it is not possible to idolize or admire a person and accept the bad with the good and perhaps learn valuable lessons from their own past. I don't know about you, but none of my idols were perfect and I only love them more for that. It makes them real to me and lets me relate to them. The George Bush analogy is downright ridiculous.

Somehow the bottom line still seems that people are being amused by the exaggerated behavior of an individual with an opiate addiction. The best girls I ever had sex with were also psycho and on drugs. But that doesn't mean that I am going to put up with that for the sake of a good BJ either.

I have never seen a movie about her life. Is there one? In "The Rose" ( The story of a Janis Joplin type character) Bette Midler sings a song at the end "Stay With Me" also done by Lorraine Ellison earlier. Janis could have done a great job on that song.

I don't think there's a name actress that could do justice to the role. They'd have to dub every song...but it is interesting to see all the names that have popped up in the past when it comes to a Janis flick like,
Pink, Renee Zellweger, Jennifer Tilly [WTF?] Zooey Deschanel, etc. But Juliette Lewis wants to do a movie of Patti Smith because she said she's not convinced Hollywood would do Joplin's life justice.
