i agree. he is a pretty good bass player. even though people tend to look down on bassists that use picks, there are some great ones that use picks. such as this guy and Justin Chancellor (the guy that inspired me to play bass :])

Its tough sometimes in Metal to not play with a pick, its fucking tough for me to get down on some things that jump from Like the A scale all the way to the E phyrigian and then back down and up again. Sometimes a pick is a necessity, plus it adds speed as well.
I loved Nirvana ... ( 1 day ago by velcrozombie)
I loved Nirvana when I was younger and I still like them a lot, but the only member that was a great musician was Dave Grohl, and even he looks pretty bad next to anyone in Meshuggah. However, Nirvana was about simplicity and pure expression of emotion, so they didn't need the greatest musicianship to be effective. As someone else said, you really shouldn't compare these two bands to each other.
Yes and sometimes ... ( 17 hours ago by mathprodigy)
Yes and sometimes pick bass sounds better anyway, depending on what you're doing. Like Staind uses a pick bass, and the bass player from that band seriously has some musicianship, so you know that the pick is all about tone and personal preference instead of "it's just easier to use". I mean maybe that's it but he sure can play so it doesn't matter. Same here with Meshuggah. Wouldn't sound the same without the pick bass so yup, perfectly appropriate, accepted, respected, and enjoyed.

Yeah in metal the ... ( 9 hours ago by cdcook316)
Yeah in metal the pick is needed. Ive been playing since i was 12 and i learned how to play with my fingers, and i cant play with a pick for shit. You get more accuracy with the pick but if you play with your fingers you can get more tonal control, like if some notes need to be louder punchier or more staccato than others its easier to do that with your fingers, but for pure speed you gotta play with a pick, unless you can do 4 finger picking, and i cant do that.
