the speed of this just blows Jaco's version away (not that speed necessarily makes it any better). Even with the speed, both versions are very good.

Blue in Green was Bill Evans, plain and simple. Arguably also Nardis was Bill Evans' tune. And people say Donne Lee was Miles' tune.

OMG, that's just fucking ridiculous...wow. I've never seen anyone play upright like that...ever. That's just nuts. Thanks, Vic.

Point all of SRV lackies towards this kind of music! Its so funny when a 17 yr old or a non-musician sais "Stevie Ray Vaughn was the best"...pfftt!

You can't really compare the two at all... Completely different styles.. but I can see what your saying though.

SRV was good but he was always a little too "clean" for me...didn't really like what he did with Hendrix tunes. I just feel Little Wing and Voodoo Child should be sloppy, dirty, gritty songs. On the jazz circuit however, Joe Pass is unparalleled.

He's not even using any effects pedals, and yet he still shreds. That's true talent. Plus, most of that was made up on the spot.

By upright do you mean acoustic bass ? Any serious jazz player wouldn't be seen dead playing anything else,
Yeah, I guess ... ( 1 week ago by JMGilberto)
Yeah, I guess you're right. Jaco was a putz, huh? Gary Willis must be a real loser, huh? ...As he even plays a 5 string electric. Listen, stop being such a music snob. It's not the instrument, it's what you do with it. I don't care if a cat plays Kazoo. if he kills it, he's got my kudos.
NHOP is good, but ... ( 1 week ago by uzibones)
NHOP is good, but personally i believe Yngwie Malmsteen to be the faster of the two, his scales and arpeggios can exceed speeds of 240 bpm's.
Good? I think you ... ( 1 week ago by semnocaopontocom)
Good? I think you accidentally typed an extra letter 'o' there!
Anyhow, why are you comparing these two? YM plays a different instrument to begin with. Double bass - fretless, acoustic Guitar - fretted, electric Aside from this, the double bass requires much more finger strength for each not than the guitar. YM soloes with a pick. NHOP soloes with his right
-hand fingers. This affects speed greatly. Double basses can't be 'picked'. I've tried it for fun. etc.
When Yngwie ... ( 1 week ago by uzibones)
When Yngwie Malmsteens plays the upright, he uses a pick and his speed exceeds 240 bpm's. He also scallops the fretless neck, to increase speed.
AHAHAHHAHAAHAHA ... ( 1 week ago by jazzcombo251)
AHAHAHHAHAAHAHA Yngwie Malmsteen. yo Yngwie can't play jazz and this music is way more complicated and musical than Yngwie. ahahah that is by far the most halarious comment i've heard on youtube so far.

No, really...I'm not sure if we're on the same page here...YM doesn't play the upright...at all... I've seen YM play live. Amazing guitarrist etc., mostly technique-wise. This is Jazz...it's even beyond just having great technique. It's about feeling...improvisation. YM can solo really well on a rock bassline. Jazz is completely different, and in my opinion, Joe Pass kicks his ass. Anyway, with as much respect as I've for YM, u must be posting this just for fun. I have faith u know the truth.
Well, we are ... ( 5 days ago by uzibones)
Well, we are unfortunately. these blokes have artistic integrity on par with Yngwie, and personally i prefer watching a fat swedish joke who has held his mother in law hostage with a shotgun than some old guy with a caterpillar on his lip masturbate on stage. If you think players don't improvise or feel music in rock/metal then you don't listen to music for music's sake. go listen to Egberto Gismonti, Thelonius Monk, Bud Powell... not these crackers who missed the point. troll success but fail.
