To all citizens of the cosmos:

Video Description:
This clip is an open message to all citizens of the cosmos.
Whether you know it or not, everyday you use what Aristotle, Hypatia, Copernicus, Galileo, Kepler, Newton, Einstein, etc. gave us. They gave us knowledge. Carl Sagan stood on the shoulders of these giants of science and saw further. He gave us much more than knowledge, coalescing their science in
to one inescapable result; love. Do you use it everyday? Sagan's legacy is a love unadulterated by dogma, superstition, authority, and fear. It is literally Universal; accessible to anyone who opens their eyes, heart, and mind. If you think of the relentless advance of science as a "great human de
motion," please, think again. Through science, Sagan courageously revealed an overlooked but wonderful paradox of humility. One that turns the "demotion" upside down. By taking us out of the center of the universe, Sagan put us back in - for truer reasons. He showed that our value is intrinsic to th
e universe, and that our story, is the universe's story. Sagan lit the way to a love rooted in truth, even if some of those truths hurt at first (which is the reason some find it difficult to accept). But the reward for courage is a new way to love ourselves, our lot in life, our planet, our place
in space and time, and perhaps most importantly, each other. Sagan showed us that love does not come from outside this universe, it comes from within - from within the youniverse. As the battle between religion and science rages on, why isn't it clear that love without knowledge is lame, and that k
nowledge without love is dangerous? Alone they are equally meaningless. It's such a shame that science and love are divorced in the minds of most. As a scientist, I know how gushy and sentimental this sounds. So let me try to express it in a way you critical thinkers are accustomed to: Knowledge is
power. Love of knowledge. To know the power of love. I'm not sure if this is a formally valid syllogism. But no matter your stripe, that's what Carl Sagan gave all of us; truthful, transcendent, pure, poetic, powerful, love. I'd say he gave more, but how could anyone give more than that? We've be
en 10 times around the sun without him. Have you ever noticed that there are just some people who seemed to be especially "changed" by Carl Sagan? Those who go so "ga-ga" over him, that even ten years after his death, they still blog, gush, and talk nearly incessantly about him? And these are often
the people least likely to otherwise worship, idolize, or even get excited about a professional athlete, celebrity, rock star, authority or politician. I'm one of those people. My life-trajectory was tugged and defined by the gravity of Carl Sagan. He gave all of us reasons to cherish the pale blu
e dot and "all that ever was or is or ever will be." He personified the Cosmos -- literally. A gifted scientist, communicator, dad, and human being, he moved millions to see. But what's more incredible than how many he did move, is how many have somehow missed the message. Because make no mistake -
and he would be the first to admit -- his legacy is about the message not the man. As endearing as he was, this is not a cult of personality, but of the Cosmos. Carl Sagan articulated poetic and accessible accounts of reality that were so beautiful and simple that once you understood what he was s
aying, you would never see the world the same way again. Everything was meaningful and awesome. So ask yourself if you understand what he was saying. Do you have any idea what you are missing? Please, take some time to get to know what Carl Sagan was telling us. So many smart, thoughtful, and loving
people can't be wrong. I invite you to join the club. I often wonder how much better our world be if he were still here to offer his insights and guidance. But he is gone. And the rest of us who did hear him can only forge ahead, doing what we can to open people's eyes. The above text was taken f

HEAVY! I love the end quotes!!!
CARL SAGAN: For the first time we have the power to decide the fate of our planet and ourselves. This is a time of great danger, but our species is young and curious and brave. It shows much promise. In the last few millennia we have made almost astonishing and unexpected discoveries about the cosmos and our place within it. I believe our future depends powerfully on well we understand this cosmos in which we float like a mode of dust in the morning sky.

I have to say, Carl Sagan moves me, he is the most inspiring person that I have ever listened to. He motivates me to understand who we really are, and our place in the cosmos. I can't get enough of Carl Sagan. He is missed, but what he has set in motion will never die.

Great text in the description...but you should use double quotation marks ( " ... " ) in the begining and end, and you should start by saying "Rich Blundell said" or "In the words of Rich Blundell..." . You shouldn't just post a link, if they aren't your words, that should be clearly explicit. ;)
Sagan: How is it ... ( 4 months ago by IronGums)
Sagan: How is it that hardly any major religion has looked at science and concluded, 'This is better than we thought! The Universe is much bigger than our prophets said, grander, more subtle, more elegant'? Instead they say, 'No, no, no! My god is a little god, and I want him to stay that way.' A religion, old or new, that stressed the magnificence of the Universe as revealed by modern science might be able to draw forth reserves of reverence and awe hardly tapped by the conventional faiths.
Sagan knew nothing ... ( 4 months ago by Burzamonte)
Sagan knew nothing about compassion. Religion is the only hope some people have. To take it away from them by being a person in authority and claiming that Atheism is correct is as far removed from compassion as it gets. He was also just a big mouth who never invented anything. All he did was to popularize science which gave him the money and importance he yearned for. Remove Vangelis music and Sagan is nothing. Is Vangelis an atheist ? Was Newton or Einstein ? Nope.

No. I can prove everything I said. You are an idiot for calling me an idiot without even attemting to prove me wrong. But I forgive you. If you need to have Sagan as your personal prophet then feel free to do so. I was quite impressed by him when I was 13 and watched all episodes of Cosmos.

You're completely wrong and everything that you grote, it's holy crap.
Carl was more than compassion, he was humility, his disciplinary and spiritual life science, since he was a child, let him as one the greatest Astronomer of all the times, and considered for all academy of science in the world; the Albert Einstein's succesor and also THE LATEST ASTRONOMER of XX century.

You're Big ignorant and completetly moron.
you would never gonna achieve that how Carl achieved for humanity, even if you'd born a hundreds times.
He wrote too many books, one of those books a Pulitzer Prize winner for the book The Dragons of Eden , "Recomended" also The Demons Hunted World.
He played roll to inginieering the Viking, Mariner, voyagers spacecraft, for the fisrt time in the history of the human being to explore our Solar system. And i can't tell you more that he achieved.

No he wasn't. He was an arrogant prick. He treated ufologists with utter contempt and threw away 1000 pages of compiled ufo-evidence after reading the title. And it doesn't stop there. Sagan wasn't even a proper scientist. He was a lay man. I have it on good authority that he wasn't considered very bright in the scientific community. When astronomical books are written 100 years from now his name won't be mentioned.

newton and einstein were atheist, but they belived in thier OWN god, no in the typical christian god
sagan also said "i believe in my own god" thier god wasnt the stupid christian god so yes, you can consider nowton and einstein atheists, because they had thier own concep of god, like sagan thats not religion, because thier god was something/someone who/wich controled the phisics laws and all
that stuff, sagan also said something similar they never pray
"It was, of course, ... ( 2 months ago by monox)
"It was, of course, a lie what you read about my religious convictions, a lie which is being systematically repeated. I do not believe in a personal god and I have never denied this but have expressed it clearly. If something is in me which can be called religious then it is the unbounded admiration for the structure of the world so far as our science can reveal it"
Albert Einstein
