Wow, just because these men arn't taking bullets 24/7 it's a waste of taxes? When my cousin was in the RMC they'd usually wait for periods of up to 5 hours before given orders or beginning patrol. And it's not like here, where there's a TV or a PC in every corner, it's a white horizon in all directions pretty much, so leave them be.

Well my, your information is horribly skewed.. And in case you haven't figured it out (you'd have to enlist to do that) us soldiers really have no say in where we end up. My Guard unit was recently deployed to Iraq, and I was lucky enough to stay back due to my contract and GPA at college. To say no one should join because they might end up in Iraq is to say let's leave ourselves vulnerable to attack and force the government to bring back the draft so fine people such as yourself can fight =]

Kevlar helmets are bullet resistant. I read an article on a news website about a British soldier that got shot 5 times in the helmet and was unhurt.

Just a hint- They aren't bullet proof! 9mm perhaps to a certain degree (and distance), but 7,62 or 5,56? =
No way. Goes right through. Little hole where the bullet enters, big hole where it leaves the helmet. They've been designed to protect from shrapnels- not from bullets! However, if you are far away enough, (or if you're lucky and the angle is right) the projectile might be stopped or misguided. And please, one shouldn't do this to a helmet ;) One might need it once.
