First of all, I learned how to solve the same predicament years ago, then I saw the same test done with a chimp, a young child. The kid solved it faster than the chimp. Second, an audience who hasn't seen this puzzle before would not know that water is available. This is interesting, though rather disappointing.

You're exactly right. We're not able to see the water, so the test is unfair. The chimp has also probably dropped a peanut into his waterbowl before, so it's not hard to extrapolate.

Really? Are you sure about that? I'd rather have spit covered food go through my esophagus, rather than actually putting saliva covered food into my mouth. When there's saliva on my sandwhich I'm a little hesitant about eating it. Aren't you? After I've already put a non-saliva'd morsel in my mouth, the texture no longer bothers me b/c it's going to it's next destination. Why is everyone attacking me over the fact that I don't like spit covered peanuts?
