Not a drug song.
Martin L Gore wrote this inspired by watching his then infant daughter sleeping. The song is about the hold on him that his baby has. Of course, because it's a Depeche Mode song, it sounds more dark and sinister than it actually is. "Precious" is the answer song to this.

Never heard of this song being connected to Martin's daughter - where did you read that? I know "Precious" is about the effects of divorce on his children, because he stated that publicly several times. First time I've come across any kind of specific inspirational reference for this song though.
