I sawy Mr. Reams do this at Carnegie Hall with the NYCGMC. As far as I'm concerned this is the definitive performance for this song. He is absolutely brilliant. (Not to mention extremely sexy.)

The Birdcage is a ... ( 7 months ago by BestArts)
The Birdcage is a 1996 remake of the 1978 film La Cage Aux Folles, which was adapted from the 1973 musical - where this song, written by Jerry Herman, originated. So yes, the love story is the same.
My understanding is that Birds of a Feather is a completely different story.

I appreciate the response - but don't quite understand the timeline. Was Birds of a Feather based on the '73 musical La Cage Aux Folles? Or did they both have a common earlier source? Or are they separate stories?
There is no 1973 ... ( 6 months ago by LisaGiocondo)
There is no 1973 musical. Birds of a Feather is a secondary title for "The Birdcage" - the 1996 American-made version of the 1978 French-Italian comedy, La Cage Aux Folles (which was followed by two sequels in 1980 and 1985). The 1983 Broadway musical production followed the storyline of the 1978 international film hit. It is in origin a French play from 1973.

This came from a salute to Jerry Herman, who wrote the song, not from a production of "La Cage." We have more songs from that show in our playlist "DVD: Jerry Herman" including "I Am What I Am".
As far as I know, no video has been released of an entire production of the stage musical.
