I think deep down some people just need to believe that SOMEONE is in charge, that Someone knows what's going on in this mad, random world. They would rather think the world is controlled by evil white men than accept that history is cruel and random. There is no order, new world or otherwise, and most of existance is, sadly, uncertainty pain and suffering, followed by death and then who knows what.
