Stephanie Keith met a Vodou priest at a Buddhist interfaith event in New York. He invited her to photograph and experience the religious world of his Haitian culture. Ten ceremonies later, she offers her images and reflections on these late-night rituals.

he is a demon. You people are deceived, and vodou is a counterfeit religion. I was involved in this spiritual wickedness, but now I'm delivered. There is only one true spirit from God and that is the Holy Spirit.

Yep, he made the earth and everything in it, so I'm not surprised that he would get jealous when the people he made in his likeness start worship and invoking spirits they don't understand. My family raised me in vodou, and the reason why I'm warning you is that when you invoke Guede and Baron it gives other spirits legal entry to remain in you. You'll end up full to the brim with evil spirits that will destroy your lives and relationships. I from the heart of it & know what I'm saying. watch!

yes, that's true a problem with possession is to make sure you don't get possessed by the evil spirits...but it's wrong to say that, all those spirits are evil and only christian stuff is good...that's the animist world, the world where spirits live on the earth but the christians get fooled into believing that they're all evil you just have to know the good ones from the bad!

There is an equilibrium that must exist to achieve balance on this planet.There will be those who will NEVER understand,let alone (care to) ACCEPT the true essence of any religion/philosophy when it doesn't have christ in the picture. BLESSED BE!!! AYIBOBO!!! :) Papa Ghede came to me in a dream a couple of days before one of my shipmates killed himself. Sadly and respectfully I did not know why I had the dream until after my shipmate's death. Less than a week before that dream, I even had a dream in which I saw a Vodou initiate get burried in the floor of an hounfor.

No, vodou is a religious tradition formed in Haiti as a service to the lwa. Obeah, from what I understand, is a African magical/superstitious practice, similar to Hoodoo or Voodoo. Ngangas, or priests of Obeah, from what I know, work on spells, charms, amulets, etc.

Budgie- it's not safe to do these kind of things on your own. It's great that you want to become more in touch with your spirituality... but find a group somewhere. You never know what you might be calling in without the proper ritual and technique.
